Indispensable Online Services for Webmsters

Since my first experience in registering a domain name and launching a website, I’ve always encountered problems that I never though there would be a solution for them. But I eventually solved almost all of them.

Imagine a tyro who likes  to use his/her own email address, not Yahoo!, Gmail or Live.  Think about it when he/she wants to launch a neat website for the classmates to update the university news and share educational files on it.

I’m gonna introduce some online services which have been proved to be undoubtedly useful and reliable. In my opinion they are best in their job. You might see some famous services that you already know in the first items on this list, but I suggest you reading all the titles so that you might find something new among them.

WordPress

I’m sure 90(!) percent of you have already tried WordPress as your content management system to create a website and you have realized that it’s the most perfect option to create a neat website :-). For those ten percent that have not already decided what to use as a content management system, you are so lucky to have WordPress as your final choice. It’s been made to “Make the Internet a Better Place”. – Get WordPress

Cloudflare

Cloudflare logo

I f you haven’t heard about Cloudflare yet, you might not believe that there is a  service that accepts  a considerable amount of the load on your server (or host) at no cost. In the other words It’s a free CDN.

Cloudflare is not just a CDN. It has many other capabilities that I’m gonna gonna introduce some of them briefly.

  • Professional DNS Management
  • Smart Firewall
  • Reduce css and js file size and cache them to serve to visitors (without affecting the main files on your server)
  • Detailed analytics of your visitors
  • Free SSL certificates for your webpages

You only need to change your existing nameservers to those you get from Cloudflare after you sign up for a Cloudflare account.

The list will be updated …

The Free-to-Read Articles and News on Financial Times

As you may already know, Financial Times (FT) is one of the most trusted news sites in the world. They have real time updates on worldwide events including business, politics, technology, etc. Financial Times logo (transparent)

All told, they have really accurate and fast covering on what happens around the world. But unlike almost all other newspapers and news websites, FT doesn’t offer a free access to its online articles and only subscribed members who have purchased one of the subscription plans have access to FT online contents including news, articles, videos and more.

However, there are some articles, news and videos that are still free-to-read and free-to-view and you don’t need to pay for reading them. From today I’ll try to provide a daily updated list of the links to free news and articles on Financial Times. You can see the last ten links here. (Note that the full list is available on miladnasri.com/FreeFT)

How to Criticize? How to Approach Peacefully.

Giving criticism is often a challenging act, especially if the person you are giving it to is very sensitive! That’s why you should approach carefully to not to make it worse. But how?

Sometimes when you’re dealing with someone extra-sensitive, Caroline Web, describes in her book How to Have a Good Day that you should avoid the unnecessary things that might trigger his/her defense. Webb suggests the “What I Like” model for these situations:

  1. Give reasonable details of the way you think. Tell him/her : “What I like about this is . . . “. Then you may need to explain your reasons. Mention any positive points of your recommendation. Try not to rush!
  2. “The next step is saying “What would make me like it even more is . . .”

Nerina Pallot – “Love Will Tear Us Apart” lyrics

Actually, the first time I heard a Nerina Pallot‘s song was a few months ago and it was a short piece of her song “Hard Equation” on an advertisement by Hyundai. Since then I became a big fan of her.

Now I’d like to share the lyrics of one of her songs, Love Will Tear Us Apart.

When routine bites hard
And ambitions are low
And resentment rides high
But emotions won’t grow
And we’re changing our ways,
Taking different roads
Love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again

Life Changes When You Find Duolingo

A few days ago when I was browsing Google Play Store on my friend’s phone, I suddenly found an application whit a green bird as its icon. It was called Duolingo. When I read the description I realized that it’s a language learning community that offers free courses to learn almost all important languages in the world like French, Spanish, German and so forth.

How Much Powerful the Servers of Instagram are?

Do you know how many photos are shared on Instagram by users every year? About 22billion photos. Wow, a really powerful and big server is needed.

Now let’s print all these photos that people send to this visual social network. All the photos of this year would reach thousands of miles if they are printed. To zip past the Empire State Building you’ll need the stack of printed photos of just 37 minutes. To climb the Mount Everest, photos of 12 hours is enough. Instagram Header Photo

What about the outer edge of the Earth’s atmosphere? The answer is six Instagram days!
